String Chamber Music Courses with Daphne Moody

Overview of the String Chamber Music Course:

Receive expert coaching from Daphne Moody, leader of the La Folia and Eberle Quartet.

You are welcome to come as a ready formed ensemble or to join other players on arrival, working on repertoire of your choice or a selection of available material.

A practice space will be available to your group throughout the course. The tutor will rotate between the groups giving tailor-made tuition during the mornings.

After lunch there will be ample opportunity to continue playing in an informal way and/or to go out and explore the surrounding countryside and the medieval town of Cordes-Sur-Ciel. French enthusiasts will find considerable opportunities in the area for conversation, exploring the history of the region and soaking up the ambience of medieval villages and local markets.

After late afternoon tea there will be a further coaching session and the opportunity to continue playing in the evenings.

There will be an informal concert on the final evening with the participation of the students and teachers.

We also welcome people who do not wish to take an active part in the course but who would like to explore the surrounding region by day and rejoin the players in the evening.

Daphne Moody - biography:

Daphne Moody studied the violin from an early age under Alfred de Reyghere and later at the Royal Academy of Music with Sydney Humphreys and Frederick Grinke.

Following a period in Canada with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, where she was also a founder member of the Philharmonic Quartet, she returned to England to freelance with orchestras such as the Halle, the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and the London Festival Orchestra, with whom she toured the Far East, South America and many parts of Europe.

Daphne is now much sought after as an orchestral leader, chamber music player and teacher. For the past twenty one years she has been both leader and artistic consultant of Sarum Orchestra. Chamber music is her great passion and she has created a highly successful chamber music series as part of the Orchestra's season.

She is a founder member of Eberle, a chamber ensemble which gives recitals, workshops and master-classes in both the UK and other parts of Europe and has recorded to critical acclaim with the NAIM label.

She works extensively with SAGA holidays to provide specialist music appreciation weekends at different centres in England and on the Amalfi coast and Tuscany as well as travelling the world and providing classical concerts on board SAGA's own ship.

She has worked with many leading animateurs on music projects for primary school children and children with special educational needs.
